WHAT’S NEW WITH KILR?
The annual Kansas Interlibrary Loan Roundtable fall program and
meeting was held at the Hutchinson Public Library on October 6, 2004 following
the KIC Council morning session. Over 50 attendees gathered to listen to Debbie
Greeson and Teresa Coble from the Kansas State Historical Society and Brenda
Cash from the Southeast Kansas Library System present a program on borrowing
genealogy materials on interlibrary loan followed by a question and answer
period. Thanks to Debbie, Teresa and Brenda for their hard work and for sharing
with us in an informative presentation.
A brief meeting concluded the afternoon with an introduction of
new KILR officers for 2004-2005: Sha Li Zhang, KILR Chair; Cecilia Huddleston,
Vice Chair/Chair Elect; and Lynn Haggard, Secretary. If you are interested in
serving as an officer or have questions about the function of each office,
please contact us at the addresses listed below.
Other items discussed were recruitment of new officers for 2005-06
and the upcoming 2005 Tri-Conference program. Several program suggestions were
made including ideas for ILL training, mentoring and changes in OCLC. These will
all be incorporated into a Tri-Conference program titled, “How can ILLers
state-wide help everyone learn resulting in improved resource sharing? Why
training and mentoring, of course!” There will be more program information
forthcoming in the months ahead. We tried to make this interesting for everyone
so please plan on attending the KILR program at Tri-Con 2005.
Why be a KILR member? Besides the cool acronym, the purpose of the
Kansas Interlibrary Loan Roundtable is, “to improve interlibrary loan in the
state of Kansas by providing a forum for personal interaction among ILL
personnel, enhancing cooperation among libraries, acting as an ILL support
group, encouraging coordination of ILL policies and procedures, and providing
specialized ILL educational programs.” We welcome new ideas and faces, whether
you are new to interlibrary loan or an ILLer from way back, please consider
joining the Kansas Interlibrary Loan Roundtable.
Also, Pam Tull has been working on the new KILR website and she’s
doing a great job, so please be sure to congratulate her. Thanks, Pam!
