Election held during annual meeting at Tri-Conference

KANKID-L Children's List Serv Established

The annual meeting of the Children's and School Libraries section was held at Tri-Conference in Salina.

The meeting was presided over by outgoing Chair Julie Joy, of Winfield Public Library.  Ms. Joy reported the section currently has 49 members and over $800 in funds.  The annual report for the Section was available at the Kansas Library Association table.

Lisa Daniels, of Augusta Public Library, was nominated and elected as Vice-Chair.  Christy Snyder assumes the position of Chair Person for 1999-2000.  Ms. Snyder serves as children's librarian for both the school district and public library of St. John.

Attendees were given a brief survey to complete regarding the effectiveness of the Section.  These surveys were available throughout Tri-Conference.  Results indicate communication and lack or participation by schools as the greatest concerns.  Tri-Conference programming was indicated to be the greatest strength.  Interest has been expressed in a Preconference or Fall Workshop sponsored by the Section.

The Section has established a list serv, KANKID-L.  This list is designed to serve Section members, but is open to all library professionals interested in topics relating specifically to children and young adults.  Discussions include sharing of resources, children's programming ideas, forming partnerships between public and school libraries, Tri-Conference programs, and other children's issues.

Section Web Site Complete

The Section has developed a small home page on the KLA web site on Blue Skyways. It contains section guidelines, contacts, information about KANKID, and a copy of the annual report.  In the future we will place additional information on the page, relating to Tri-conference and other events.
